An elderly woman has died in a road crash in Co Galway.

The woman, who was in her 80s, died when her car collided with two other vehicles at the village of Kilreekil, between Ballinasloe and Loughrea.

The occupant of one of the other cars, a woman in her 30s, was taken to University College Hospital in Galway.

However, her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The occupants of the third car did not require hospital treatment.

The road is closed for a forensic examination and diversions are in place.
