A 26-year-old Lithuanian man has been charged with the murder of Jolante Lubiene (27) and the unlawful killing of her eight-year-old daughter, Enrika, in County Kerry.

Aurimus Andruska who has an address in Killorglin, had earlier been questioned and released by Gardaí investigating the double killings.

He was rearrested at 6.30pm yesterday evening.

He was then brought before a special sitting of Killarney District Court just before 8.30pm.

With an interpreter present, he spoke only to take the oath in Lithuanian and nodded to acknowledge that he understood the proceedings

Behind him sat Jolante Lubiene's husband, Marius, and her sister Kristina.

She sobbed throughout the six-minute hearing.

Detective Sergeant John Kelly gave evidence of arresting and charging Aurimus Andruska.

He said the accused replied in response to one of the charges: "I didn't kill, I can only tell."

Garda Superintendent Flor Murphy applied for Mr Andruska to be remanded in custody.

Judge James O'Connor ordered that he be brought back before the court again next Tuesday.
