Delegates at the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation conference in Letterkenny have voted unanimously in favour of an emergency motion on Croke Park II.
The motion mandates the organisation to continue to explore alternatives to the Croke Park proposals.
But in the event that the Government seeks to impose pay or other cuts members will be balloted on industrial action up to and including strike.
Delegates gave standing ovations to speaker after speaker supporting the motion as they spoke of the unrelenting pressure they are experiencing.
Delegates raised difficulties in paying bills, mortgages and educating their children.
