Australian authorities are conducting an inquiry into the alleged cover up of child sex abuse by the Roman Catholic Church.

Among those giving evidence will be some of the most senior police officers in the state of New South Wales.

The inquiry was prompted by allegations that the Roman Catholic Church in Australia hid evidence about paedophile priests.
