Boy in critical condition after falling into stream in Midleton

A seven-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after he was pulled from a stream near his home in Midleton, Co Cork.

The boy was with a friend when he fell into the stream that runs between the Tir Cluain housing estate and the Mill Road in the town.

The incident happened at around 7pm this evening and gardaí said the boy was taken from the stream by a neighbour

Emergency services, including the Shannon-based rescue helicopter, were also at the scene.

The boy has been taken to Cork University Hospital.
