Tipperary TD Michael Lowry has said he is making no comment on the disclosure that gardaí are looking into a conversation recorded at the time of the Moriarty Tribunal.

The 2004 recording purports to show Mr Lowry asking Omagh-based land agent Kevin Phelan not to make public a IR£250,000 payment that he had made to him and that had not been notified to the tribunal.

Mr Lowry subsequently insisted the payment had been fully accounted for by his company.

In a written Dáil reply, Minister for Justice Alan Shatter said gardaí were aware of the tape and were giving it their attention.
