Eoin Holmes, the Labour Councillor for Slane, has been selected by the Labour Party as their candidate in the Meath East by-election.

The selection took place in Asbourne this evening and was attended by the Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore.

Helen McEnteee, the daughter of the late Fine Gael junior minister Shane McEntee, is also a candidate in the forthcoming election which is due to take place on 27 March.

The seat became vacant after the death of Mr McEntee in December.
