Helen McEntee, the daughter of the Fine Gael junior minister Shane McEntee, will be the party candidate in the forthcoming by-election caused by the death of her father.

The 26-year-old was the only candidate put forward at the Party's selection convention in Kells this evening.

Although her candidacy still has to be ratified tonight, it is now a foregone conclusion that she will be the Fine Gael nominee.
