Gardaí have begun an investigation after a woman's body was found following a house fire in Co Cork.

The fire occurred at Pembroke Crescent, Passage West at around 1.30am.

The body of the 36-year-old mother of three remains at the scene and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy is conducting a post mortem on the body.

The woman was a mother of two boys and a girl aged between nine and 12 years.
