Man sentenced to life in prison over internet café row

A 36-year-old man who kicked another man to death following a row over a 70 cent phone call has been sentenced to life in prison.

Zhen Dong Zhao of Jervis Street in Dublin was found guilty this evening at the Central Criminal Court of the murder of 40-year-old Noel Fegan in a Dublin city centre internet café.

His wife told the court that the attack was out of character and that he was sorry for the victim's family.

Noel Fegan's sister and mother said the killing has had a devastating effect on their family.

On 20 May last year, Mr Fegan and his friend went to the e-times internet café on Lower Wellington Quay to ring his teenage daughter in a phone booth after he received a “call me” text from her and had no credit on his phone.

A row broke out between Dong Zhao who ran the internet café and Mr Fegan over whether or not he got through on the phone and owed 70 cent.

Dong Zhao attacked Mr Fegan kicking him repeatedly in the body, head and neck. He died a short time later.
