Gardaí in Dublin today began using Segways to police urban areas.

Two Segways were presented to gardaí by the Dublin City Business Association (DCBA) and will be used primarily in pedestrianised areas.

Assistant Garda Commissioner John Twomey said the Segways give officers a better view to police busy streets as well as greater mobility.

He said they also make gardaí more visible to the public.

The Segways presented today will be used in a pilot project in the Grafton Street area.
