A 29-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Eugene Gillespie at his home in Sligo between 19 and 21 September.
Mr Gillespie died in hospital last weekend from injuries he sustained in an assault at his home.
Simon McGinley of Connaughton Road in Sligo was brought before a special court sitting in Carrick-on-Shannon this afternoon.
Inspector Jim Delaney said Mr McGinley had presented himself at Sligo Garda Station on Friday night.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with Mr Gillespie's murder.
Judge Kevin Kilraine remanded Mr McGinley in custody to appear at Harristown Court on 5 October.
Hundreds of people attended Mr Gillespie's funeral yesterday.
