A man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Co Clare this evening.
The 51-year-old man was swimming at Whitestrand off Spanish Point at around 5.30pm when he was taken from the water by a lifeguard.
The Irish Coast Guard helicopter airlifted the man to University College Hospital in Galway, where he was later pronounced dead.
