25 killed in Pakistan bomb attack

A car bomb attack has killed 25 people including three children in Pakistan's northwestern tribal district near the Afghan border.

Since July 2007, a Taliban-led insurgency concentrated in the northwest has fought Pakistan's government.

A local administration chief said the blast appeared to be aimed at members of the pro-government Zakha Khel tribe, who oppose a local warlord.

Six shops were gutted and several damaged in the blast in the main bazaar of Landi Kotal in the Khyber tribal district.

Hospital officials said 34 people were wounded.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
