Armagh is to get a lord mayor after the city was awarded in the Civic Honours competition to mark Britain's Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee.
Armagh joins 30 other UK cities that have lord mayors and is only the second Northern Ireland city after Belfast to have the honour.
In a statement this morning, Northern Ireland Secretary of State Owen Paterson said: ''I congratulate Armagh and its new Lord Mayor for this prestigious award to mark the Diamond Jubilee.
''Armagh's venerable past from the time of St Patrick was doubtless a key factor in helping it beat the other competitors in the Civic Honours competition.''
