Report sought on estate where toddler died

The Environment Minister has asked Westmeath Co Council for a report on the unfinished estate where a two-year-old boy died yesterday.

Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan says he has asked Westmeath Co Council for a report on the unfinished estate where a two-year-old boy died yesterday.

He sympathised with the family, saying it is a terrible time for them.

It is understood the toddler's body was discovered in a small pool of water beside a drain area in the Glenatore development.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Health & Safety Authority inspectors also attended the scene yesterday.
