The Artist wins seven awards at BAFTAs

French-made silent film The Artist dominated the BAFTA ceremony in London last night.

The French-made silent film The Artist dominated the BAFTA ceremony in London last night, winning seven awards including best film, best director and best actor.

Meryl Streep won the award for best actress for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

In the short film category, the award went to Pitch Black Heist, starring Irish actors Liam Cunningham and Michael Fassbender.

The 13-minute short was produced by Cork woman Gerardine O'Flynn.
