Two people have died in separate road accidents in counties Wexford and Cavan.
A woman in her late 60s died after the car she was driving collided with a ditch at Haggard, Ramsgrange in New Ross today.
A second woman, aged in her 70s, who was also in the car was injured and taken to Wexford General Hospital.
The road was closed for a short time for a forensic examination, but has since re-opened.
Anyone with information is asked to contact New Ross Garda Station 051 426030, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
In Co Cavan, a 22-year-old man died in a car crash in the early hours of this morning.
The man was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the road on the N3 at Virginia and hit a wall at around 2am.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses.
Separately, provisional figures for 2011 show that road deaths have fallen below 200 for the first time since records began, in 1959.
A total of 186 people lost their lives on our roads last year.
Gardaí say the reduction is due to education, enforcement, better engineering, ongoing evaluation of road safety strategies and an improvement in driver behaviour.
Additional penalty points and testing for drug driving are among the new road safety measures that are due to come into effect later this year.
It is hoped that these along with better driver behaviour will help continue the downward trend in road deaths in 2012.
