Met Éireann has issued a weather warning with heavy rainfall and strong winds forecast, at times, in all areas today.
Up to 50mm of rain is likely in parts of Cork, Kerry, Galway and Mayo over the next 24 hours.
Strong south to southeast winds will be gusting to between 80 and 100km/h in exposed places and will be strongest in the southwest.
The Road Safety Authority is advising drivers to take extra care on the roads over the coming days.
The heaviest rainfall is forecast for the west of the country, where coastal flooding is expected.
