Woman dies following collision in Cork city

A woman has died after she was knocked down a bus close to the bus station at Parnell Place in Cork city centre.

The incident happened at 4.50pm this evening. The 66-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the bus was not injured but he and several passengers are said to have been deeply shocked by the incident.

The area was sealed off to allow an examination by garda forensic road crash investigators and has since re-opened to traffic.

The woman's body has been removed to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem examination due to be carried out tomorrow morning.

She has not yet been identified.

Gardaí at Anglesea Street in Cork are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
