The National Roads Authority has said talk of new tolls on the motorway network is speculative.
It said that even if they were given the green light, they would not come into effect for years.
The comments follow reports in today's newspapers that dozens of extra new tolls are under consideration.
The NRA said it is currently looking for a consultancy service to help them look at the existing business and potential tolls. The consultancy is still up for tender.
NRA spokesman Sean O'Neill said experts would advise on where any new tolls should fall, but ultimately it would be a policy matter for the Minister for Transport to decide on.
