A man has ended his sit-in protest at his mother's hotel apartment over a legal limbo following a receivership.

Thomas Bradshaw's mother was one of the investors who bought 140 properties at the Golf Suites, in the Citywest hotel complex.

But since the development company, HSS, went into receivership, the property owners have been unable to occupy or rent out the properties. The owners also had no right of access to the building, even though they are paying mortgage repayments of up to €2,400 a month.

Many of the owners want to convert the suites to apartments but there is currently no planning permission for them to be used as dwellings.

Mr Bradshaw broke into the property a week ago to claim possession and occupied it even though he said he was without running water or electricity.

His brother, Peter, said the family are still trying to establish their legal rights and whether there is any insurance cover in place for the properties.
