Around 5,000 people have taken part in a 'Rally for Life' in Dublin today.
Speakers at the rally called on Taoiseach Enda Kenny to keep an election promise that Fine Gael would oppose the legalisation on abortion in government.
A recent European Court of Human Rights ruling said Ireland had failed to implement existing rights to abortion when a mother's life was at risk.
Ireland is the only member of the European Union that bans abortion.
Meanwhile, up to 300 pro-choice activists staged a counter demonstration, calling on the Government to legislate for the 'X' case as a matter of urgency.
The pro-choice group said it had organised the protest to show that a majority of people believed in the right to choose.
