Two women have been elected to the offices of mayor and deputy mayor of Sligo for the first time.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Rosaleen O'Grady won the mayoral election.
One of only two Fianna Fáil councillors on Sligo Borough Council, her election was supported by Fine Gael and Labour councillors under a pact agreement on the office.
Three Sinn Féin councillors and one Independent councillor voted against her.
It is Cllr O'Grady's third time to hold the office and she said she would use every opportunity to promote Sligo and looked forward to the many challenges ahead.
Cllr Veronica Cawley was elected as deputy mayor.
She was elected as a Labour councillor before the General Election and ran unsuccessfully for the Dáil as an Independent.
