A women's charity has found that technology is increasingly being used by abusive partners to monitor and control women.
Women's Aid today announces details of calls made to its National Helpline last year.
Launching its statistics for 2010, Women's Aid says that over 10,000 women called its helpline last year disclosing instances of abuse by partners.
The charity has reported a growing trend of technology being used as a tool to monitor and control women, particularly younger women between the ages of 18 and 25 years.
Some of the women told of mobile phone calls and texts being checked and social media and emails being used to stalk them.
The organisation has also logged a substantial increase of over 50% in traffic to its website, taking to 48,000 the number of visits to the site in the past year.
