RTÉ has not provided the Road Safety Authority with all the information it has about the Prime Time Investigates programme on abuses of the NCT tests.
Speaking in the Dáil, Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar said that he had been shocked by the programme and had contacted the Authority for a report on the issues raised.
He said he felt RTÉ had a responsibility to give the Authority all the information that it could, while ensuring that the whistle-blowers were not identified.
Leo Varadkar said that whistle-blowers had done a public service and it would be unfair to expose them.
Minister Varadkar said he did not see the issue as a systems failure in NCT, as it was alleged there had been bribes, so that unfit cars were allowed pass the test.
