A man in his 80s has died after a crash in the centre of Athlone this afternoon.
It is understood the man was walking on the road near the eastern approach to the River Shannon bridge when he was struck by a tractor.
Custume Place has since reopened, but major roadworks are causing delays on the N6 Dublin to Galway-Athlone bypass road nearby.
