Two men in their 30s have been killed in separate road crashes in Co mayo and Co Cavan.

A man was killed in a two-car crash on the Swanlinbar to Ballyconnell road (N87) at Derrynacreeve Cross in Cavan.

The man was a front-seat passenger in a car that collided with another car at 3.30am this morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Cavan General Hospital.

Four other people in the car were injured and have been taken to the hospital in Enniskillen. Two people in the other car escaped without injuries.

The road is closed for a garda investigation and diversions are in place.

Witnesses to the crash have been asked to contact gardaí in Ballyconnell on 049-9525580.

Elsewhere, a man died when his car hit a wall on the Claremorris to Ballyhaunis road (N60) near Brickens at 9pm last night.

The man was alone in the car at the time of the crash and there were no other injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar.

The road is closed for a forensic examination and diversions are in place.
