The Belfast High Court has been told how an Armagh man flouted a ban on associating with children by setting up a Facebook account, and arranging for a girl to travel from England to meet him.

22-year-old James Carragher, from Portadown used a computer in a public library to contact the 17-year-old, despite a prohibition on accessing the internet.

He was arrested last week after the girl’s mother alerted police to the planned meeting. Mr Carragher faces two charges of breaching a sexual offences prevention order.

His lawyer said Carragher had not acted surreptitiously and had been up front and almost invited detection.

However the judge refused him bail saying his actions were blatant and calculated.

He said Carragher was absolutely impervious to any form of restriction and treated any inhibition to his desire to have inappropriate relationships with members of the opposite sex, with contempt.
