Quarry diver is airlifted to naval base

A diver who got into difficulty while exploring a flooded quarry in Co Tipperary was airlifted to Cork for medical treatment.

A diver who got into difficulty while exploring a flooded quarry in Co Tipperary has been airlifted to Cork for medical treatment.

The man, who is in his 20s, was diving with three others in the quarry at Portroe.

The Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter airlifted the man to the Navy headquarters at Haulbowline in Cork, where he was treated in a decompression chamber.

His three companions were taken to Cork University Hospital where they are being kept under observation.
