A 50-year-old man has been killed in road crash in Co Longford.

The van the man was driving left the road and hit a ditch at Fostragh, near Aughnacliffe at around 8.20pm yesterday evening.

There was no other vehicle involved.

The road remains closed for a technical examination.

Gardaí have asked anyone with information about the crash to contact Granard Garda Station on 043 6687660 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Elsewhere, a woman was seriously injured in a crash on the N81 in Tallaght in Dublin.

The single-vehicle crash happened at about 1am this morning.

The road is closed between the Cheeverstown Road junction and the Jobstown Inn until further notice.
