Funeral of John Butler in Cobh

Cork - Funeral of John Butler
Cork - Funeral of John Butler

The funeral mass has taken place in Cobh, Co Cork, of John Butler.

He died when his car crashed and burst into flames on Tuesday.

Fr John McCarthy said the sudden manner of John's departure in the most tragic of circumstances had left a prevailing sadness and disbelief with many unanswered and unanswerable questions.

Mr Butler's sister, Katherine Norton, spoke on behalf of his family. She said they wanted to thank the O'Riordan family for the support and unity they have shown them always, especially in the past week.

She also thanked the gardaí who she said gave beyond the call of duty to ease their pain in the last few days.

Shortly afterwards the coffin bearing John Butler's body covered with a Cobh GAA flag was taken from Cobh Cathedral for cremation.

Yesterday, the funerals took place in Ballycotton of his two daughters, two-year-old Ella and six-year-old Zoe.

They died at their home in Ballybraher on the same day.
