The man who died in a crash in New Zealand yesterday has been named as 23-year-old Leslie Armitage from Co Tipperary.

A 21-year-old man, also from Ireland, was injured in the incident. His name has not been released as family overseas are still being informed.

A statement from Alexandra Police said the pair were working as farmhands in the Ida Valley in Central Otago on the South Island.

The accident happened when the Land Rover they were travelling in left the road at Poolburn yesterday afternoon.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the men's families.

Police have completed an examination of the scene and inquiries into the crash are continuing.
