US financial services corporation Citi says it will create 500 jobs in Belfast's Titanic Quarter over the next five years.

Like many of the leading banks and financial services companies, Citi went through some tough times during the past two years.

However, it has continued to build the base it established in Belfast in 2004 and it currently has a Northern Ireland workforce of 900.

440 jobs are being described as high-quality roles in the technology and operations divisions, while the remainder will be in the legal and compliance division.

The Belfast base mainly services markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

This is a major announcement for Northern Ireland.

First Minister Peter Robinson, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster will attend a function where the announcement will be made.

Citi executives were with them at an investment conference in Washington last month.
