Motorists have been urged to slow down following torrential downpours in parts of the country.

Met Éireann has issued a weather warning for 25-40mm of rainfall in parts of Munster and Leinster.

AA Roadwatch is warning of heavy surface water on roads in parts of the east, while conditions are said to be improving in the southwest.

Some parts of Kilkenny, Laois, Meath, Waterford are Kildare are seeing flooding, with reports of lots of surface water.

In Kilkenny, the Freshford/Urlingford Rd (R693) is impassable due to flooding.

There is also severe flooding around Ballyragget, Castlecomer and Freshford.

In Waterford, the Lismore/Ballyduff Rd (R666) is impassable at the Towers due to flooding.

The Newbridge/Milltown Rd (R416) in Kildare is closed due to severe flooding.

AA Roadwatch is also recommending care for motorists travelling on the M7 Dublin/Limerick Rd.
