An opinion poll suggests that public confidence in the Government's handling of the economy has fallen again, after a slight recovery at the end of last year.

The Millward Brown Lansdowne poll found that just 10% believe the Government's handling of the economy is fairly good (9%) or very good (1%).

This is the lowest rating since January 2009.

Of those polled, 74% said the Government's economic performance was very poor (53%) or fairly poor (21%), while 21% said they did not know.

The poll was conducted between Monday and Thursday of last week among a representative sample of 1,000 people nationwide.

Almost 80% of the interviews were done after the Taoiseach's controversial Morning Ireland interview on Tuesday.

The poll also found that 74% of those polled believed the country is on the wrong track, compared to 71% in the last poll in March.

However, there is a slight rise from 7% to 10% in those who believe they will be better off this time next year.
