There have been four bids to buy EBS Building Society.
RTÉ News understands offers were made by Doughty Hanson, the company which owns TV3, and Irish Life & Permanent, owner of Permanent TSB bank.
US private equity group JC Flowers also made a bid, and there was a joint offer from Ireland's Cardinal Capital Group, which teamed up with Carlyle Group of the US.
EBS is being advised by NCB Stockbrokers and KPMG.
The State, which effectively controls EBS since it made a €100m recapitalisation investment, is being advised by the National Treasury Management Agency on the issue.
Earlier this year, Finance Minister Brian Lenihan said EBS needed €875m to meet targets set by the Financial Regulator.
He committed the Government to providing this if EBS could not raise money from private investors.
