A Coast Guard helicopter was on its way to the Beara Peninsula in west Cork in an attempt to rescue a man and a boy who became trapped on a ledge in the Caha Mountains.
The two got into difficulty while climbing the 670m (2,200') high Hungry Hill between Castletownbere and Adrigole earlier today.
The alarm was raised at around 4pm by a woman who was in the same area at the time.
The Irish Marine Emergency Services Coast Guard helicopter based in Waterford was on its way to the scene.
