Slight fall in July consumer prices

Consumer prices fell by just 0.1% in the year to July, the smallest drop since January last year, according to official figures.

The Central Statistics Office said prices were unchanged compared with June, after four monthly increases in a row.

A breakdown showed that clothing and footwear prices dropped by more than 7% in July due to sales, but increases in landline and mobile phone charges pushed communications prices up 2.8%.

Consumer prices dropped sharply throughout 2009, but the pace of price falls has been slowing steadily since hitting 6.6% in October last year.
