A man in his 60s has suffered serious head injuries after he fell while climbing on the Macgillicuddy Reeks in Co Kerry.

The man, who was in a party of four, fell on Peakeen near Moll's Gap shortly after 2pm.

He has been airlifted to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee by the Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter.

Members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team and Kenmare Fire Service also took part in the operation.
