A suicide car bomber has attacked a convoy carrying employees of a private British security company in northern Iraq, killing four workers and wounding five Iraqi civilians.
One British citizen was among the dead. The nationalities of the other victims are not known.
Iraqi security officials said the suicide bomber targeted the last vehicle of the convoy in Mosul and the force of the blast threw the armoured vehicle 40m into a ravine.
'We can confirm that a British national was killed in an attack on a British private security company convoy in Mosul this morning. We have offered consular assistance,' the British embassy said in a statement.
Iraq is on high alert for insurgent attacks after a 7 March national election produced no clear winner and left the country in a state of political uncertainty.
