The body responsible for running Leinster House has reported a €33m underspend on its last three year budget.
The Annual Report of the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission says the underspend was on a budget of €393m for the period.
The report claims the Commission showed strong leadership by implementing savings that included reducing mileage rates by a quarter, and reducing and abolishing other allowances.
It says allowances to Committee chairmen were reduced by up to 50% and the travel budget available to them was halved.
The Commission says its budget for the next three years has been cut by over 8% due to the prevailing economic circumstances.
