The computer gaming company EA is to establish a customer service and operations centre in Galway.
The company told the stock market this morning that the new operation is expected to generate 200 jobs in the city by the end of next year.
This new centre will be involved in developing online computer games and supporting customers.
Until now, EA has had no presence in the Irish market.
IDA Chief Executive Barry O'Leary says it adds to Ireland's growing reputation as a centre for internet activity in Europe.
EA is based in Redwood, California, and has operations in Sweden, Germany, Romania and Spain.
The company is looking for a site for the centre in Galway city and has begun the recruitment process.
Taoiseach Brian Cowen said the deal was an important addition to the thriving games industry in Ireland.
