Minister for Tourism, Culture & Sport Mary Hanafin has backed calls for European Commissioner Máire Geoghegan Quinn to re-consider her pension situation.

Speaking on The Week in Politics, to be broadcast tonight, Ms Hanafin said the Commissioner should show leadership and forgo her Irish pension of over €100,000.

Ms Hanafin's cabinet colleague Eamon Ó Cuiv made similar comments yesterday.

But when the Taoiseach was asked about the controversy today, he said it was a matter for Mrs Geoghegan-Quinn.
