The survey, from iReach Market Research, reveals that the vocabulary of 90% of Irish children has been affected by the prolonged recession the country is continuing to experience.

Almost three in ten parents say that the word 'recession' has entered their children's vocabulary.

'Unemployment' is the second most popular recession-related word to be heard from children, with almost every fifth child in the country using it on a regular basis.

The survey also says that children are talking about the 'credit crunch' (16%), 'redundancy' (15%), 'NAMA' (15%), 'mortgage rates' (13%) and 'interest rates' (10%).

The market research services company's survey included questions targeted at parents with children aged between five and 15 years.
