Developers 'submitted dud fire certs'

A Dublin city councillor has claimed that ‘dud’ compliance certificates were given by developers’ architects for an apartment scheme later found to be in breach of fire regulations.

Dublin City Council had to evacuate 16 families from social housing units at Priory Hall, Donaghmede last month because developers Coalport had failed to comply with a fire enforcement notice.

Labour councillor Sean Kenny said a council report has stated that the local housing department received a certificate from architects saying that the development was in compliance with building regulations.

Cllr Kenny called for a review of the system that allows building regulation controls to be self-regulated by the construction industry.

He pointed out that Coalport had also failed to build a link road for the Priory Hall development, which was a condition of the planning permission for the scheme.
