19.52 High lying areas in Dublin are experiencing a loss of water supply as councils reduce pressure to maintain their reserves.
Two public swimming pools at Sean McDermott St and near Tara Street have been opened as washing facilities to inner city residents; some of whom have been without water since last Wednesday.
19.43 Due to road conditions, Bus Éireann services between Tralee and Killarney and Limerick are cancelled for the rest of the evening.
19.33 All DIT exams will proceed as scheduled from tomorrow, Tuesday, 12 January.
In addition, classes in the Conservatory of Music and Drama will also resume tomorrow, not Thursday 14 January as previously announced.
18.59 Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has cut back its road gritting operations. School footpaths have been gritted upon request in preparation for opening tomorrow.
18.57 Kildare County Council has appealed to householders and businesses to conserve water, following a sharp rise in demand in the Greater Dublin region.
18.55 Galway County Council is requesting people to reduce water usage to an absolute minimum.
18.50 The organisers of the BT Young Scientist Exhibition wish to confirm that the competition will go ahead this week as planned.
17.18 Dublin City Council is calling on the public, businesses, schools and everybody in the community to conserve water. This is because water levels are at a critically low level and demand is at an all-time high.
17.14 Met Éireann has warned of more severe weather conditions in the south of the country, with the big freeze being replaced by heavy rain and high winds.
16.47 Tralee to Limerick services will resume operation this evening at 5pm and 6pm subject to road and weather conditions.
16.09 Clare County Council has announced that it is shutting down public water supplies throughout the county this evening in an effort to preserve supplies. The council says demand has risen by 20% with most of the council's water treatment plants at or near production capacity.
15.55 RTÉ footage of a man slipping on ice in Dublin city centre has attracted almost 500,000 views on YouTube. The man, who escaped injury, has not been named, although various Internet sites are seeking to track him down.
15.50 Six historic sites controlled by the Office of Public Works have re-opened following the bad weather.
St Stephen's Green in Dublin, Heywood Gardens in Co Laois, Altamont Gardens in Carlow, the Battle of the Boyne site, Castletown House in Celbridge and the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre have all re-opened today.
However, a number of other sites remain closed.
15.46 Cork Airport is open and operating normally this afternoon. All remaining scheduled flights this afternoon and this evening are expected to operate.
15.37 Bus services have been restored to the northside of Cork City.
15.27 Waterford IT says that due to the adverse weather conditions, the commencement of lectures has been postponed until 13th January 2010.
15.24pm The Institute of Technology Carlow re-opened today, however it is expected that there will be disruption to scheduled activities due to the weather conditions.
All exams have been deferred until 18 January 2010.
15.17 Limerick City Council will be carrying emergency investigative works on the water main networks, which will mean water will be temporarily shut-off to the Dock Road and the North Side of the city for a period of one hour from 3.00pm top 4.00pm today.
14.40 Following a review of the campuses this morning and the better than expected weather overnight, all campus roads are now clear and UCD Belfield and Blackrock campuses will be open for business as usual tomorrow.
13.45 Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey has said that there may have to be cuts in water supplies if people do not conserve water.
The Minister told RTÉ Radio’s News at One that water supplies are seriously depleted around the country - in Dublin yesterday there was a 25% increase in water use.
13.35 Gardaí are still advising motorists to exercise extreme caution. In a statement gardaí say that a thaw has been reported in many areas and motorists are asked to be mindful of the threat of slush, black ice and flooding as road conditions change.
13.15 Donegal County Council is appealing to people to check taps and service lines at home, in outbuildings, in fields and in vacant premises as demand for water becomes extremely high. There have also been a number of burst mains disrupting supplies in a number of areas.
The areas affected are - parts of Falcarragh and Cloughaneely, areas in the Rosses and Gweedore, parts of Moville, Cooley, Drung and Iskaheen in east Inishowen, parts of the Frosses, areas near Lifford and also some areas served by cross-border supplies including Alt, Doneyloop, Gortnagrace, parts of the Castlefinn area and the Meenreagh/Tieveclogher area.
12.57pm Roads around Co Meath remain hazardous and Meath County Council are warning motorists to travel with extreme caution.
The council describe the water situation in the county as 'critical' with reservoirs at record low levels. Over the last few days the demand for water has been double normal levels.
12.40pm Dundrum Adult Training & Education have announced that enrolment scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday has been deferred to the same days next week.
Enrolment sessions on Thursday 14 January and Friday 15 January will proceed as planned.
12.37pm The Road Safety Authority has today advised road users to remain vigilant on the roads as the snow and ice begins to thaw this week. Click here for advice.
12.33pm The Defence Forces have said they are continuing to support local councils and the HSE with 66 personnel and 23 vehicles on manpower and mobility tasks throughout the country.
They are mainly deployed in Leitrim, Westmeath and Cork.
There are a further 450 personnel on standby around the country and this figure can be rapidly increased should further support be required.
12.23pm In Kilkenny, a number of owners of four wheel drive vehicles have banded together to offer help to anybody who needs it.

12.17pm Cork Airport will re-open at 12.30pm.
12.08pm Water is being turned off in the Gorey area from around 4.00pm this evening until 8.00am tomorrow in an effort to conserve supplies, which are running dangerously low.
12.00pm Minister for Education and Science Batt O'Keeffe has decided that the normal arrangements whereby schools decide to open or close based on local circumstances should be re-instated.
This means that schools in a position to open tomorrow should do so.
11.55am: Day care services for elderly people in parts of north Tipperary have been cancelled.
Nenagh Day Care Centre, which runs services for up to 35 elderly people each day, closed this morning because they cannot transport people to and from rural areas outside Nenagh by bus. The service will remain closed until next Thursday.
The Centre's bus cannot travel along roads in rural areas because of ice and compacted snow.
It provides services for elderly people in Nenagh, Toomevara, Templederry, Silvermines, Ballywilliam and Borrisokane.
11.46am: There has been a partial thaw in Limerick since earlier this morning, after heavy snowfalls yesterday. Gardaí are still warning motorists to be careful, particularly on secondary and rural roads.
Household water supplies in some part of Limerick and Co Clare are low or have been cut off.
Limerick City Council is supplying water at a number of locations and people can collect water in containers. Limerick County Council is providing water for collection at its offices at Dooradoyle, Annacotty, Kilmallock, Rathkeale and Newcastle West.
In Co Clare tankers are delivering water throughout Ennis and Shannon, in addition to providing water at standpipes at a number of locations up to 8pm.
11.43am: Water shortages are affecting thousands of people across Co Clare this morning. Snow has been reported throughout the county with up to 15cm (6”) on higher ground.
All main routes in Co Clare are passable this morning, but extreme caution is urged. Gardaí have closed the Lisdoonvarna to Kilfenora road and the roads around Killaloe are also in a dangerous condition due to fresh snow. The main street in the town has also been closed.
11.40am: Senior engineers from six local authorities in Dublin and surrounding counties are attending an emergency meeting about water supply.
Engineers from the four Dublin local authorities will be joined by engineers from Wicklow and Kildare.
The meeting started at 11.30am in Dublin City Council's water division in central Dublin and it is expected to last several hours.
11.32am Waterford Institute of Technology has cancelled all lectures schedule for today and tomorrow.
11.15am Letterkenny Institute of Technology have announced that tomorrow's exams will continue as scheduled.
Exams originally scheduled for today have been moved to next Saturday.
11.00am Gardaí in Cork have said the main roads in and around the city centre are fine but the city's hills remain 'extremely dangerous' for motorists, despite the thaw.
10.05am Muintir na Tíre volunteers will be providing telephone support to older and more vulnerable people for the duration of the remainder of this cold spell.
The telephone support will operate daily from 10am to 8pm and will provide. The number is 086-6000751.
9.30am UCD is closed today, but re-opening tomorrow, while the Waterford Institute of Technology is deferring all classes until Wednesday.
9.18am Cavan Institute has said it is opening for class this morning as normal. However evening classes will not be running this evening but the Adult Education Information and Enrolment Evening will take place on 13 January.
9.00am AA Roadwatch says overall conditions have improved this morning, though there is still a lot of snow in Munster. Slush is the main problem with patches of black ice in places. Motorists are urged not to be complacent and to continue to drive with extra care.
8.35am Cork Airport is expected to remain closed until midday after further heavy snow overnight.
A spokesman said a final decision would be taken at 11am.
8.20am Bus Éireann says that in Cork city, services are unable to serve the northside of the city. 201 North City Orbital Route is cancelled. 212 Glenthorn-Patrick's Quay is cancelled.
In Kerry, there are no services operating in the county at the moment. Tralee to Cork, and Tralee to Limerick services are cancelled for the moment.
In Limerick, early morning services to Birr, Ballingarry, Charleville, Cappamore and Scariff were cancelled.
8.00am AA Roadwatch says snow is a problem in Munster, and parts of Ulster and Connacht this morning while in Leinster, conditions are very slushy, which will make driving difficult particularly in housing estates. Footpaths are still very icy.
7.46am Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that all rail routes are continuing to operate around the network during the freezing conditions.
However, the 11.05am Galway to Heuston is cancelled. All other services on the route will operate to the normal schedule.
7.38am Gardaí in Cork city are advising motorists to avoid any unnecessary journeys.
7.35am Local authorities in Cork, Kerry, Dublin and Meath are asking people to conserve water, due to increased demand during the cold weather.
7.30am Cork Airport is closed this morning, and is not expected to re-open before 12.00pm.
Dublin Bus is operating a full service subject to a limited number of curtailments.

Bus Éireann says that subject to road and weather conditions, the vast majority of services around the country are currently operating with some delays.
It is expected that there will be delays in Cork and Kerry.
There have been some minor delays to flights leaving Belfast International Airport.
