It follows reports by TV3 that the Minister for Finance has been diagnosed with cancer.
Government sources said the reports represented an unwarranted intrusion, a view echoed last night by the Labour Party's Joan Burton.
Mr Lenihan was admitted to hospital for tests earlier this month.
