Fire at Hammond Lane facility in Ringaskiddy

Several units of the fire service from Carrigaline and Crosshaven fought a fire at the Hammond Lane metalwork facility in Ringaskiddy this evening.

Several units of the fire service from Carrigaline and Crosshaven fought a fire at the Hammond Lane metalwork facility in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork, this evening.

Fire officers say that the fire posed no chemical or biological hazard.

Locals reported hearing an explosion just before 5pm and clouds of black smoke from the scrapyard were seen from across the harbour in Cobh.

The fire is now under control.
