A crewman from a French fishing vessel has been airlifted to hospital in Cork.

The man became serious ill while the trawler was fishing 100 miles south of the Fastnet rock.

The Waterford based coastguard helicopter flew to the scene and took him to Cork airport, where he was transferred to the city's University Hospital.
